Shooting is one of the most ancient and celebrated events of the entire Olympic history. This year, there wouldn’t be any difference as a maximum number of competitors are going to take part in this traditional event of the most prestigious multi-sports event of the history, version of the year 2016, RIO OLYMPICS 2016.

Change of match format:
This year’s shooting competition of RIO OLYMPIC 2016 will be the similar to 2012 LONDON OLYMPIC, but there will be some drastic changes in rules and the format of the tournament. According this new rule, all the finalists of the tournament will face the elimination stage in the tournament. The final two of the competitors will battle for the gold and the loser one will get the silver title. There are also some notable changes in other sectors of the tournament like decimal scoring system, firing periods of the match, etc.
There was a qualifying round like the previous years’ Olympic editions. The spots for the Olympic quota were fulfilled by the global performances of the players of different nations as per the rules of International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). Brazil got the privilege of being through to the tournament as they are the host.
Total 15 events have been finalized for this competition for both the male and female contestants. The complete plan of the tournament is like the following:
50 m rifle three positions, 50 m rifle prone, 10 m air rifle
50 m pistol, 25 m rapid fire pistol, 10 m air pistol
Trap, Double Trap, Skeet
50 m rifle three positions, 10 m air rifle
25 m pistol, 10 m air pistol
2012 LONDON OLYMPIC RECORD:
In 2012 LONDON OLYMPIC, the top position of the medal table was adorned by South Korea, who achieved 5 medals including 3 gold ones. The next two spots were the United States and Italy. Apart from these 3 countries, other countries like Belarus, India, Serbia, Croatia, France, etc. are being considered as the top most favorite for this year’s Olympic edition.
